Family Caregiver Support Program

Caring for an older adult can be as challenging as it is rewarding. In many cases, the family is the primary source of support for an older adult who is no longer able to care for him/herself alone. The responsibility can be
demanding, not only on the family member’s time, but also on personal energy, resources and health.

The Family Caregiver Support program assesses and addresses the needs of family caregivers. Referrals are received by the Agency’s 24 hour Senior Help Line for services that support care giving. Our respite services provide a short interval of rest for the caregiver.

There are options for the caregiver including:

  • Having their loved one attend one of many Adult Day Health Care Centers for supervised recreation and supervision, or
  • In-home respite arranged through one of our contracted home care agencies.
  • The “Friends and Neighbors” consumer directed care model allows caregivers to choose their own respite worker and are reimbursed by the agency.
  • Support groups are offered countywide at no cost to the caregiver.

In addition, making sure to take care of yourself is essential for your well-being. Download the Caregiver Survival Tips
