Current Treatments for Heart Disease – Understanding cardiovascular disease risk factors, warning signs and treatments options are key elements in making informed decisions about your heart health.  Anthony Pozun, DO, discusses the treatment options of cardiovascular disease including the pros and cons of stents.

Look Good, Feel Better – A program that teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy.

AARP Driver – Safety Program – A two-day course taught by an AARP instructor.  Fee: $10 payable only by check to AARP on the first day of class.

NUTRITION

Live Well with Diabetes – Sun Health registered dietitians, nurses and fitness specialists present this comprehensive, four-part program for newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetics or individuals with limited diabetes education.  The interactive, four-session series encourages self-management and eases fear, denial or other roadblocks to learning and health.  Participants learn self-glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, effective stress management and easy ways to increase physical activity.  Body composition and class materials, including a diabetes workbook, food planner and pedometer, are provided.  Registration deadline: Feb. 15.  Fee: $100.

Understanding Chemotherapy – A medical oncologist provides an overview of chemotherapy, how it works, possible side effects and other helpful information related to cancer treatment.

EXERCISES

Exercise for Heart Health – Learn how to start an exercise program.  A Sun Health fitness specialist provides exercise guidelines, ideas to help design an exercise program, motivational tools and general questions to ask your physician before starting and exercise program.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. The Area Agency on Aging partners with Social Service agencies in Maricopa County that assist grandparents and other kin caregivers (including aunts and uncles) with legal, financial, and parenting issues. Support groups are also offered by caring professionals.
