ARIZONA SILVER HAIRED LEGISLATURE

The Arizona Silver Haired Legislature (ASHL) is a non-partisan legislative body organized to involve residents age 60 and over in the process of state government. Delegates are elected to serve a two-year term via ballot in their respective legislative districts where they reside.

Delegates research and write bills on issues affecting not just seniors but all Arizonans. At their annual session, which is held at the State Capitol each fall, they work in committees to pass bills, debate and vote on bills, and set priorities. The top recommendations are submitted to the Governor and State Legislature for adoption and then the delegates actively support the chosen issues.

There are 30 legislative districts in Arizona and the ASHL's goal is to have delegates from all districts so that urban and rural interests are equally represented.
